FINDING THE “INNER ELDER”

Sigmund Freud saw the unconscious as one’s own unique darkened storehouse of repressed sexual impulses. Cardio-energetics proposes that, because much of who and how we are is pre-coded from the heart of our mother and others, our unconscious is really our set of cellular memories that constitute aspects of our life not yet lived—a written but not yet completely played internal cellular symphony, or perhaps the heart’s code not yet completely deciphered. Our cardio-unconsciousness may be the cellular memories that manifest as our “soft- or hard-hearted” code, more apparent to others than to ourselves. If this is true, our health and general well-being may depend on tuning in to our temperament template, including the dark side of who we are. It will require that we learn to listen to and read the full spectrum of the energy of our heart by learning to focus and sense it, assess it with instruments like the H*E*A*R*T* questionnaire presented in chapter 1, determine if we tend to be cool- or warm-hearted, and develop a more enlightened connection with the energy stored in the hearts of those around us. It will require that, as we consider our unconscious inner elder and his or her as yet unlived life, we ask ourselves, “When am I going to get around to you?”
